Anyone running an EQA, any comments or observations?
Hi I have been running an EQA for a few months and am delighted with it. The issues raised in various magazine reviews are non issues as far as I’m concerned. It drives and handles perfectly well for my brisk driving style but maybe wouldn’t suit a boy racer ( my previous car was a BMW 328 i so I know about handling and performance) The drive is smooth relaxing and quiet so I’m always sorry when I get to the end of the journey. As with all EVs I would have liked a lot more range but it does most of my journeys without the need to charge enroute.

Hi, I have had an EQA since before Christmas. I love the drive and look of the car but I have a big problem with the MBUX system crashing all the time and the After Care from my dealership has been terrible. Anyway the reason for my post is the mileage I am getting out of a charge is terrible. I tried to do a 155 mile trip last week with 92% which said was 189 minimum and I have to stop 15 miles from home as I was down to 8 miles. I would say my driving is sensible, I'm putting plenty of miles back on the ECO Boost. I have been testing it this week and from a full charge at work on Monday, 228 minimum miles displayed, I am currently on 95 miles left only having done 77.

Am I the only one with these issues?

Hello and welcome,

If you get >half the stated range from the car then you're doing well - especially with the current weather - EV's dislike cold temperatures - lost of extra draw form heaters, lights, wipers etc

^+1 yes turn off all the consumables and you will get a much better range but it might be a bit cold though. Probably ideal providing you daily commute is <100 miles - someway to go with them yet on range IMO and a 3 phase home charger is a must

Yes, around half is what you would expect in winter.

I get by with a 7kwh single phase charger at home with no issues, full charge from emtpy in 4-5 hours tops on a 41kwh pack.

If they could fix the range problem they would have done it by now, all the guff about battery technology is just that, battery performance has hardly changed at all in the last 100 years. They have just got a little bit smaller.

EQA250+ 2022
Hi
Posted this on another forum, but looking for help and advice please.

EQA 250+ 72 plate bought used from MB in September.
Its a really nice car, my first MB and we love it. Installed a home charger via OVO and Ohm which is also fantastic, super cheap rate at 7p/Kw.
BUT, the range is truly terrible. I decided to do a test this week, as I had a feeling I wasn't getting much out the battery.
Charged up last Saturday to 90%, range shows 250 miles; great. I'm happy with that. And that was the expectation when we bought it.
Driven this week to and from work (short journeys of 13 miles each way).
The car has managed to perform 110 miles total in reality, and now is showing<30 miles and time for a recharge.
I accept it's been cold this week and it sounds like that draws quite alot from the battery, I was expecting to lose 1/3, but the current range is not practical for us. And I can't rely on what the car tells me.

Anyone got advice about how to extend the range out please?

If you are doing lots of short journeys in winter, its going to kill the battery, using loads of of it for heating the car.
EG if your doing 13miles x2 its got to heat the car fully each time, which is hard, especially when its 1-2 degrees.

Try pre-conditioning the car whilst its plugged in, it will draw the energy used for heating from the wall, saving the battery.

You’re right the car should be doing more miles to a charge but as Alex above the weather conditions are about as bad as it gets in this country at the moment so battery life is compromised.

My son leased a EQC 3 months ago his commute is a 85 mile round trip he also fitted a home charger and he’s getting on brilliantly with the car the range isn’t a problem as the company have fitted chargers at work - the big issue is that the charging infrastructure doesn’t exist to support these cars properly at the moment and that’s not going to change anytime soon.

Exactly the same problem with a CLA 250e PHEV, using at least 50% more 'battery miles' than actual miles and closer to 100% more as the weather gets colder and the days shorter. The dealer technician tells me that the heated seats are less hungry than the cabin heating (which is not surprising) but you don't buy a car like this to sit and shiver. With a petrol car you simply don't notice the extra battery drain from auxiliaries. Now I have got the 7kW charger working (the first one didn't!) I have got used to charging the car every two local trips but the whole experience was nearly enough for me to send the car back. First time in >40 years I have regretted buying a car.

That’s quite a statement!
More a cry of frustration. Pay thousands extra for the car, another £1k+ for the 'charger', change electricity supplier, fiddle with apps, struggle to unwind and re-wind charging cables, all for a miserable 30 electric miles per charge. As somebody said, when you fill up a petrol car once every 2 weeks you get a roof over your head. When you charge a PHEV every second day, you stand in the rain! In the cold hard light of day, it's just not worth it.

Sorry to hear this summed up very eloquently!

Thanks some good advice, I've taken the car out of Auto recouperation, using pre heat before driving the car and set the Aircon to Auto at 22oC, with heated seats to keep warm. Still not much better about 100miles actual range on a 90% charge which showed theoretical range of 250 miles ! Cold weather may well play a part, as does short journeys. I intend to do a 100 mile trip at the weekend, it will either show longer trips are more economical or we will be walking home !

cannot comment on eqc but recently went to wolverhampton and back from bolton ,about 89 miles each way, started off with 301 miles and home with 103 miles left, had heater on until just outside manchester then switched to heated seats which ended up too hot. you will get less in winter but i have not noticed any difference on longer runs , shorter runs with heaters on will make a big differenceto range but shouldnt be that much, 85kw battery.
