Hi all

2000 c320 w203.064

Intermittent ESP light still playing up.
Fault codes today point to esp lateral acceleration sensor.
Garage and myself believe something else is causing this.
Codes read
c1142-001 b24/2 electrical fault
c1142-004 b24/2 zero point variation
c1142-016 b24/2 signal cable has open circuit or short circuit
c1202 a7/7s1 (BAS release switch) plausability

this could be Dutch to me.
Cant afford to pay garage for further investigation yet so any ideas?

Thanks

latt accel sensor is a very common fail, and with those fault codes you have a prime suspect. if the wiring and connectors check out i suggest you need to change it. have you not been able to check live data and conduct guided tests for it??

The trouble is that none of those codes are the common ones

Everything point towards the Yaw rate and lateral acceleration sensor,.and possibly a poor connection on it, I would clean the connector and try again

Thanks for your replies.
My indie said codes point to lateral acceleration sensor as well BUT this is not conclusive.
He had a similar car with same problem - changed sensor but no joy. (Customer sold car on so could not investigate further). Will check and clean connections -
Whats best to clean them with ?

Live data tests etc would be great but I cant do them for myself. ( so costing money that I cant afford yet)!:(
I'll exhaust all things I can do myself first.:)

If there's anything else I can check please let me know!!

Thanks

plug and go, MB part only, common to many many cars with esp so plenty of chance of getting a s/h one.

it is the one nearest the camera, with a plated metal bracket which it clips into. the one behind it is the yaw rate sensor, i have never had to change one of these.

update

Hi All

Removed lateral acceleration sensor as per photo.
Connections looked really clean no dirt or corrosion.
Sprayed with contact cleaner anyway and checked all nearby visable connetions and wires.

This sensor has a slightly sticky gel like plate under it??? What is this ?
As its not screwed into anything but sits in this metal cradle guessed it my have been stuck down at sometime? Anyway stuck in to the base of the metal cradle with double sided tape and clamped cradle shut. Seemed a more snug fit!!
How does this arrangement work?? expected it to bolted down like the yaw sensor.
Anyway Result 2 days and 45 miles no ESP:-D
Will see how long that lasts!!!

Thanks

The dirty pins on the connector is a listed fault, so lets keep our fingers crossed

A long time has gone by and I'm wondering how long this did last! I have exactly the same set of fault codes on my 2001 C220. If you still monitor this forum I'd be interested to hear if this solved the problem.
