Just left local hand wash and this came up on display along with engine warning light.

Car will not rev above 1000 - 1200 and kangaroos like mad at anything above 15mph.

No idea what caused it (apart from a slight wheelspin on leaving car wash due to it being wet and I was on a metal plate as it's surrounded by roadworks at the moment)

Just wondering if there's a reset or something I could do, or is it call someone out to it?

Cheers

Simply switch the car off remove the key and restart, all should be ok. With a wheel spin the computer detected it will put the warning up. But it is stored as a soft fault code.

Sound like you have water in one of the sensors, disconnect battery for 2 mins then re connect if no joy, VIN 6 number please.

Cheers Eric, but tried that and still the same :(

Just started it up now (outside the house) and the revs are fluctuating between 1000-1200.
ESP switch won't function so that isn't an option. Going to give it another few minutes and then reluctantly phone up..

OK its a hard fault code, give Malcolm you VIN and let him look.

Thanks for your time Guys,

Disconnected battery as suggested but still no joy.

WDB211076 is partial VIN Malcolm, though if it's anything more than slightly complicated I'm booking it in.
Need it desperately on Thursday morning.

Hope Malcolm can find an answer to this, but theres a wiring mod on the ESP and I dont want to be the bad messenger, but weve had to replace many of the ESP control units on your model. So, because you need the car, book it in as soon as possible.:(

Cheers Eric,

Only done 200 miles since last service (MB) and is well within warranty, so I'll let them have it unless it's something really obvious.

Sorry.nothing much on this car,if the engine limp home mode lamp is not on,then it will be water in the ESP sensors or the front SAM.

good luck.

Hi Malcolm, the front Sam s are known to be faulty, but I think in this particular case the ESP control unit has gone wrong. Appart fron the wiring mod I cant find anything else that would greate a Hard fault code. Better he book the car in and sort it out as he needs the car thursday.:(

Latest...

Technician been up (excellent bloke), plugged Star Diagnostic into it and came up with: -
Throttle actuator low on volts. This was the pedal side. The one on the engine side is slightly high on volts?
SBC showing up a fault as well, he reckons they're probably all connected and causing the ESP to spit it's dummy out.

As it's an SBC fault showing I've signed that I won't drive it, so now awaiting wrecker for it. (Sorry, recovery truck)

Will know the results tomorrow.

UPDATE:

Car been with MB Bolton since being towed away on Tues evening.

Yesterday was a dead day for them as apparently they were having their Star Diagnostics updated?
Anyway, new part in tomorrow (throttle actuator valve) and have been promised it back before lunchtime.

Gave me a C180K Classic as a loaner....the only thing I'll miss about it is the fuel consumption.

125 mile round trip today (usual boring speeds i.e. within limit) 43.8 mpg <gulp>

More than twice what I'm used to....less than half the fun though ;)

Are the brakes always dead spongy on a C class? 06 plate and takes a couple of pumps to get a pedal. Going to mention this to them tomorrow as it certainly doesn't feel right.

No more posting tonight, as I'm now on my way to the pub....coz I can :D

I had a 55 plate C180 Sport Coupe yesterday, 24.5mpg was the best I saw for the 100 miles I did in it. Brakes were fine but the AMG 18" 245/35 wheels made the ride awful.

Mine were all motorway miles and I kept within the limits, but I was really impressed with the mileage figures.
Car probably liked me though because I treated it gently :)

I know it's *only* a hire car, but it's still a car ;)

On 16" wheels so the ride is somewhat smoother that I'm used to. Brakes still really spongy though :(

Result: -

Car now back at home.

New throttle actuator valve fitted at a total cost of £902....540 ish for part & 2 1/2 hours labour.

It's under warranty so that's one consolation.

Got a quote for Service Plus as well:55.56 per month (+VAT) based on 8k annual. Presently thinking it over.
