Hi Guy's, I had hoped my 1st post would be just to say hello but  I have had intermittent ESP failure indications on my 2003 C240 for a couple of weeks now, I took the car to an inde and they read error code C1160 but say they can't be sure if it's the Accelerator or Laterial movement sensor.
Everything seems to be working OK, can still switch ESP of, cruise etc all OK
Will I have to go to MB for a Star test ?
Any help would be appreciated.

What diags do they use, star or other? really needs star to see whats going on. Or why not go to another indie for diags or possibly mercedes.

Could be as simple as the brake light switch £10

Could be the brake switch as Jib above, though C1600 is shown as the ESP control unit, this is fitted to the ABS pump

Thanks not sure what the Diagnostic unit was, I guess I will have to go to MB for a Star test, the ESP control unit sounds expensive.
I'll update with results.

As the fault is intermittent, it could just be a bad connection or dry joint. It is the black box that is fitted to the ABS pump and it can be taken off

When it first happened I reseated the connector at the bottom of the ESP unit and it was OK for a couple of days, also turning the wheel fully left/right 3 times again cleared it for a while. If it displays ESP not avail this often clears whilst driving, but the ESP visit workshop shows a malfunctoin and doesn't clear until you switch off.
I'm in Portsmouth so will probably get Pentagon to disgnose with their Star.
Cheers

Had the Star diagnostic today, same code C1160 as the other Inde, it's the Accelerator Laterial sensor somewhere at the rear of the car. It's booked in for next wed cost is 185 + vat + labour. Hopefully that'll sort it. Prestige Car Service seem to be a good outfit.
Thanks for the tip.
Cheers

ESP BAS Light

Have a ML350 (W163) 2003 with BAS Light on and unable to switch ESP on or off. Have run Carsoft on it and error code is C1160. Any ideas or good indy in Torbay? Could this be an easy fix?
