Hi Gang !

2002 C270cdi
Got the ESP - visit workshop display on the dash. Turning the steering lock to lock clears it for a short time but it reappears after the next start, even before I touch the brake pedal. Searching the forum gives 3 possibles, steering angle sensor, wheel sensor, or bad connections at ESP CPU. Where is the ESP CPU ?

S class
Also can be attributed to a faulty brake light switch.

if lock to lock sorts it, then it's probable that its the steering angle sensor. When mine went, there was no way to reset it without a switch off but I guess if yours is just on the way out, it coulkd flicker off and then return to normal, at which point a good set of data (lock to lock) could get it to reset.
To be fair, you're best getting the codes read.

Make sure your battery is good first. I low voltage after starting can cause the steering angle sensor to lose its memory.

Thanks guys, I,ll check the battery voltage tomorrow then I think I can get the codes read by a friend with a Snap On reader. Will keep you posted. JBerks, your idea seems very logical.

snap on scanner not the best on mercedes, can throw up red herrings, so be careful, we have star machine and snap on scanner that is why i know they throw up red herrings before all snap on scanner owners kick off, good luck in finding fault,
