They quote that it is Renault based. Would be interested to know how much input there is from MB and indeed what improvements they made, if any.

Generally speaking the Renault engine was not too bad. With the Renault historically it was poor quality interior trims and fit, poor build quality and poor electrics was it not ??

They over engineered the electrics on the older Renault, only they forgot to reinforce the wiring loom to take the extra current
Anyway, I am sure I have a Renault somewhere amongst my collection..................

Back in the 70's & early 80's I had: 16TS auto, 5TS, 16TX auto, 20TS, ClioRT 1.4.
Only two problems the Clio head gasket failed at about 40K miles.
The 20TS turned into a complete rust bucket. Bought new 1979 tax free in Germany, no accidents garaged every night. 5 years old needed a complete respray.

MB-USA New car warranty 48 months or 50k miles

MB-UK New car warranty 36 months with unlimited mileage

interesting comparison - we generally do less miles and the Americans more

I loved em back in the day , Renault 19 16v was a peach of an engine , naff all else could touch it in that bracket of car and then a car a still wish I owned a 21 turbo Quadra in Williams blue , fabulous car and happy days
