I have been a long time admirer of the W216 especially the V12. I love my CLS 500 but want to step up my game. I have gone out to test drive this one and I can't see myself looking back. The car has done only 44,760 miles. I love the colour paint (rare in my opinion), I love the V12 sound, so refined but it quickly becomes a monster of a car once you put your foot down half way through. I love the large calipers, V12 embossed seats, sunroof, keyless go, alcantara roofline, Night-vision assist, distronic etc,

The only let down for me so far is the non AMG performance package and dark interior. I noticed this CL does not have parking hole sensors on the bumper, but it does have the backup camera. Anyway, I have made an offer and waiting for them to get back to me. For the same money, I can either buy a Bentley Continental Gt W12 2005/2006 with 60,000 miles on the clock (purely for the name and exclusivity) or an equivalent CL 63 AMG with 78,000 miles on the clock. I would still like to test drive the 63 AMG to compare both but a great part of me is saying, stick to the Mercedes V12. On the whole, what a splendid car with low mileage. Find below a video link to the test drive. Sorry, for the mediocre video quality!

Just remember MCBD, how you were disappointed when you found you'd "only" got 300bhp in your CLS.

If the 63 is calling, you may need to answer.

The parking sensors are standard and you cannot see them, I was thinking of a CL63 but again it must have all the toys, the only snag is its the older 113 engine till much later and thats more than I can spend.

Good luck

Wish I never made that thread. I think I expected too much from the 500 engine. Overall, it's a very capable engine. Now, I am feeling the urge to upgrade to a bigger engine seeing how the W216 are taking a huge hit. I really love this W216 but it looks like without the AMG sports package, the car has really aged especially the front end.

Oh gracious lord, I was completely smitten by the performance of this car. I must admit that Mercedes make the best V12 engine. I was cruising the car gently like I didn't want to thrash it, the salesman encouraged me to push the car to its potential and when we got onto a free road, I did just that. I was in a state of awe at how this car roars brutally and reacts like a proper AMG car. When the road is clear, you can have real fun or just cruise and when choked with traffic, it comes into its own as the level of refinement completely insulates you from outside.

Road noise is very low and ride quality level is supreme. I can't fault it one bit. Utterly smooth engine and transmission, which oozes quality and luxury. A mesmerising soundtrack which deters having the stereo on, as you will only want to hear the muted growl of the fantastic V12 engine. But, if you do have the stereo on, its fantastic as well. It ticks all the boxes for me except the non AMG package and dark interior. I am yet to try a 63 AMG, but the ones I have seen don't have as much luxury accoutrements as the V12 variant. :)

Put the AMG package on yourself.

Great thread...look forward to your view on the CL63, you must test drive one before you buy...that way you will know you have made the right choice:shock:

Wow, it's like Mercedes have improved the fuel efficiency on the 500 newer BlueEFFICIENCY engines. Averaging 29.4 is really great with all that power under the bonnet.

What? This dude starts the engine of his W216 while standing outside. While inside the car, he starts the car without using the keyless-go option or key fob.
