Exhaust rattle on Start up and Stopping.

Hi All,

Looking for abit of guidance prior to bringing my E220 to the mechanics.
Since I bought the car last year i noticed that there is a slight rattle from what sounds like the exhaust. It usually lasts for approx 2 to 3 seconds.
Also it only occurs during engine start up and when the car comes to a stop.

I originally chalked it down to one of the cars idiosyncrasies. However a couple of people have started to notice it too and I dont really like having anything rattle on any car i own.

Im wondering has anyone experienced something similar of this nature prior to having a mechanic troubleshooting the issue on top of its scheduled service next week?

Could be loose heat shield , exhaust bracket problem , or one of the rubber exhaust hangers broken ? I'm sure añy garage could spot either of these in 5 mins on a ramp .
When you say it happens on start up , does it also happen when the car is hot and you restart it ?

Try getting under the car and tapping the exhaust. You should be able to pinpoint the rattle pretty quickly.

Or a timing chain rattle? It is a 651 afterall.
