Hi,
I was hacked off as the Continental Tyres fitted to my W210 E-Class from
new only lasted 20,000miles. I changed over to Michellin Energy tyres
and they lasted 24,000miles, a useful extra life, and they only cost
48Quid per corner from Costco (16inch).

I didn't see any measurable difference in MPG, if it was happening
is would only be about 1mpg. They are a little quieter too and I've seen no difference in handling and grip.

Anyone with a W210 getting more than 24k from a set?

Cheers!
John

15-20k per set on both my mercs. Better if you do a lot of motorway work, or are light on the pedals I imagine. Heavy, powerful and auto, the tyres take a hammering. Might try the Michelins from Costco though, sounds very cheap - discount price for my Continentals were £90 ish each, what size were they for that ?

Hi,
They're 205/55/16, without going out in the rain to check.

I think Costco still only supply Michellins, and their prices are
pretty keen. My other car is an Alhambra and it's got 17inch
re-inforced tyres. The word "re-inforced" seems to add at least
60 Quid! They're 149quid a wheel.

My mate at work just bought from "eTyres". You order on the web,
and they dispatch a bloke in a van the same day to fit them from a
network of small fast fit centres. May also be worth a look.

Cheers!
John

Tyre choice and swapping extends life

Hi All

It looks as though few owners stick with the recommended tyres for M-Bs!

The previous owner of my M-B made a similar switch because the standard tyres were a little too soft and didn't return a good mileage. Soft tyres tend to be good grippers but a little harder compound should give higher mileage without sacrificing safety.

The previous owner also swapped tyres front and back at the recommended intervals to ensure even tread wear and a longer life.

I'm sure I've seen a 'swap diagram' depicting how the tyres should be swapped but I appear to have lost it or forgotten where I've seen it.

Can any member please remind me of the swap sequence? I'm also not sure whether it involved the spare.

REGARDS Phil

Just had a look at mine. Continentals put on dec 02. I estimate the mileage was around 24k then. Now at 52k at not yet down to the bars, though I am getting close. The last 9 months have been motorway mileage (15k) so that helped I guess but i am happy with 30k from a set, just looking forward to the new ones, the ride and handling are starting to deriorate and I remember what a difference these made when they were new.

directional !!!!

Lot of modern tyres are directional, and of course different sizes front to back.So unless familiar with tread patterns go careful,as wear and handling can be affected dramatically.

I get about 25k out of my Michelin Pilot Premacies. Costco are doing their 20% off a set of four in the next few weeks, so look lively chaps. I get my Chevron fully synth oil there as well, about 11 quid for 4litres. Their batteries aren't that bad either.
