Extremley Smokey in High Revs

Hello People!!!

First Post - so all advice is welcome.

I have a E320 avantgarde 2001, 155k miles.

The car has a good service history, its always been a bit smokey but whenever i accelerate the car blows out a massive gust of smoke!!

Im not talking your usual diesel cars gust of smoke, im talking covering two lanes of traffic gust of smoke!!

Im worried, but its just passed mot and is driving ok....i jus need my car to not be not so smokey!!!

Please help!!!

Keith,

could be a couple of areas to be checked.

I am assuming it is black smoke - in which case the injectors could possibly be weak and over fuelling. A Diagnostic scan (STAR) reading some 'smooth running' values will give an indication if one or maybe even more of them are weak.

There could be a problem with the inlet manifold being clogged up including the EGR valve.

Normally see the diesels heavily sludged up in the inlet manifold.

Either way it could be a fairly high cost involved.

Injectors normally about £150 each and labour for cleaning inlet manifold and EGR could be about 4-5 hours.
