Hi all,

According to the documentation, my wife's 2000 E200K Classic should have a factory alarm/immobiliser, but I don't see any evidence of such a feature.

The previous owner fitted a mr. happy shopper alarm to the car (Mundial K9), which has it's own key fob. It doesn't appear to be anything but an alarm.

The factory remote central locking works fine - but I don't seem to see anything on the keyfob that would lead me to believe that it has the factory alarm installed... is there anything in particular that I should be looking for?

Good call... lots of interesting info, but nothing about an alarm though. Thanks for the link!

This must be why the previous owner fitted an alarm:

189 emerald (green) black metallic (с 1993)

Hi,
Your factory fit immobiliser is incorporated in the key, another way to check for an alarm would be if you have movement sensors on the top of the "B" pillers, also there could be a switch on the dash to switch the movement and anti-jack up sensors off.

I've only got the central locking button on the dash... I'll go and mash the buttons around on my keyfob and see what happens.

The immobiliser is automatically enabled/disabled by the key being placed in the ignition switch, and nothing to do with the fob buttons.

your car, and all modern cars, will not start without the correct key. your key contains a transponder which emits a bit stream code when excited by the ignition switch. try putting in someone elses key and you will not hear the stearing lock withdrawing, nor will you be able to turn the key. if you forced the key to turn the engine would not be started as the ecu needs to recieve the drive authorisation signal from the ezs/eis module. there is no simple way to bypass this process without changing both the eis and me-sfi modules and, perhaps, the egs module also.

basically your car can only be stolen with the key, or a recovery truck with hiab type hoist.

I think the fact that your car is left hand drive, it possibly doesn't have a factory alarm.

Good point. The alarm fitted is... OK. It makes an awful racket and is very sensitive.
