Factory Tour?

Hi Everyone!

We have the option of collecting our car at the factory and driving it back. Is the tour worth it? I realise that it's an instant 750 miles on the car (and 16 hours drive time ).

Or would you wait and have it delivered to the dealer and drive away with 3 miles on the clock?

hi, my sister had this option when she bought her new one,she picked it up from the factory and had a good time by all accounts so if you fancy a short break then take the option.

It's a great trip and Merc do it in style. We were driven to Heathrow in an E class, flown Business Class (Club Class) to Stuttgart, then driven to a good hotel and provided with a great meal at a fine restaurant. Factory tour next day and a really thorough handover so really knew how it all worked. Drove back along Wine Route (beautiful) and then through France via Champagne area. Hotels they recommended were first rate and the grub was great. A really memorable trip. Watching the cars being built and hearing the talks (in English) was interesting and informative. You can choose the Dover Calais ferry if you wish which we like rather than the tunnel. Just a matter of choice. They pay the ferry. We made 5 days holiday of the trip, which they allow. You pay about £280 extra to take wife/partner/mistress and that covers flight, hotel, dinner B & B in Stuttgart, ferry etc. Good value.

WOW! Sounds fantastic! Glad we're going to go.

Gee, since we live 3 hours away from Heathrow (in the West Country) I wonder if they'll drive us to the airport. That's the only thing I'm not looking forward to if they don't. But, heck, I think the trip will be well worth it.

I went for the factory collection when ordering my new C-class estate. Although it was from Bremen, not Stuttgart in this case.

They do not collect you from home, free of charge. But can arrange at cost. I went for my normal private hire car (like on all business trips I do to/from airport). Lufthansa Business Class was a nice touch. Hotel great as well as the food.

Next day they collect you and take you to the collection centre. There they will give you your export number plates, insurance etc etc. Then the tour. I was lucky, only one for the english (done by an Irish gentleman) so very private tour.

Then your car! Great information, the guy even loaded my CD's!

I spent another two nights in Germany before heading home, taking in some work on the way (offices in several places in Germany) and in general had a great time. Only drawback was the morning que in Brussels Zaventem. Never again I take that road..... took over 2 hrs.

The extra £25 I spent on upgrading to "any train" across the channel made me go in front of everybody else, even while they were queing to actually drive onboard the train. I felt a bit bad about that!

Nevertheless, you will have a fantastic time. They really made me feel like a customer and would never hesitate in doing it again!!
