Failed torque converter, radiator etc W203 C180

Hi

My father-in-law has had the dreaded radiator failure which has caused the torque converter to die. MB have quoted around 5k as they also want to replace the gearbox after finding metal filings in the fluid which they say are from the gearbox.

My father in law wants to write to MB, watchdog etc with the details of all the history of the vehicle which believe me is extensive. It had the engine out for over one month at one point. He has asked the dealership he bought it from if he could have the history of the car but they said they can't give him it under data protection act! The data is about him!

My question is, is there any way of getting the vehicle history from anybody on this website if I supply a chasis number etc?

Fingers crossed

Paul

If they won't supply data (that is in relation to him anyway) hit them with a subject access request, then they are legally obliged to tell you everything they hold on you with a certain time frame. Not sure if this would technically need do go as far as the work done on the car, but they'd probably just print copies of the invoices. I think they are entitied to charge a nominal fee (£10?)

I understand that the dealer who did the work can give you the info that you want.. MB SW told me who the dealer was who did my car and said that if I contact them they should give me the info

He bought the car from the dealer around 4 years ago and had problem after problem. He has approached the dealer regarding this current fault and they have submitted a claim to MB who have offered to pay half. Still a cost of nearly £3000 for us to pay.

Due to the cost we're going to take it elsewhere but also want to put our point across to watchdog and other channels and want a full a picture of the history of the car that we can.

The dealer is aware of this and whilst he has said he will help us as much as he can he can not give us a copy of the history for data protection. It sounds more like worry to me.

If they start quoting the DPA then ask them under what section of the DPA they are refusing to assist?

Because the DPA pertains to people, not cars.

Give me the chassis number. And I will find out what I know.
