hi all, Got a another problem, well I say problem, more of a minor irratation.

When I apply the brakes at standstill; i.e. when sat at traffic lights I here a faint knocking sound, it seems to be coming from the rear, but as with any noise coming from a car it can be deceiving and tricky to know where exactly it is really coming from.

tia

ps: I'm going replace all the brake pads and shoes so I know where I stand, anything I need to know before I start

Faint knocking when brakes applied

Hi Andy, I'm replacing the brakes as a matter of course, so I know they are new, I do this with most cars I buy. I replace plugs, dist cap, rotor arm, brake pads etc bit like a service.

I forgot to say this is a 190 auto, doh! sometimes I scare myself lol!

when the car is stationary but still in drive and you apply the brake to stop yourself from rolling forward, say, at quick changing lights. I hear a faint knocking sound it seems to be coming from the rear of the car I don't know whether this is normal but I doubt it.

When the car is stationary i.e. with the hand brake on or I just have my foot on the brake pedal and the gear is in either the Park or neutral position I don't hear the knocking.

does this make more sense?

Best regards

Faint knocking when brakes applied

Sounds like I could be one of the rear diff mounts ......... or possibly one of the many rear suspension bushes ....... one thing that has just come to mind is check the rear springs for a broken one or a missing rubber spring pad.....

Also I would check the engine and gearbox mounts , just to make sure the whole drive train isn't moving slightly when you apply the brakes....

Those are the things I would check.....

Any other sujestions ANDY..
