Fair price?

    I've been advised that the turbo spindle on my '02 ML 270 (93K miles) has gone and I need a new turbo. At the same time the pipe from the intercooler needs replacing. An oil change is also called for.

    I've been quoted £1300 ex VAT for this work.

    My questions are:
    1) Is this a responsible quote;
    2) Is there any preventative maintenance I should do at the same time?

    Thanks

    If you have no symptoms and this was their "discovery", I'd keep driving it. Or take it elsewhere for a 2nd opinion

    Nope, not their discovery... clouds of white smoke out the back which leads to the AA towing it to them (the closest independent). I think the diagnosis is correct - they've done a pressure test and the head gasket is good.

    Where did you go? Is this a reputable merc independent? Did they provide you with the relevant fault codes?

    I didn't ask for codes.

    I would suggest you use the specialist finder in the top right corner to locate another independent to check prices. Although, cole at MBS says it is too much, why not give him a shout or look for a closer merc independent? I know of a reputable indie in Harrow, not too sure if this is too far for you?

    Not very often do we get a independant being honest and sticking his self out, I would take his word for it saying to much and go else where. Hope this helps
