E Class Estate. Don’t be an SUV crowd person. Go for the best spec you can. Personally it would be a diesel but understand if you would prefer petrol. To me it’s the “real everyman golf”: From DIY to home appliances to camping. It all fits. My only advice would be to budget for a set of winter wheels and tires depending on where you live and your driving style. Or, and maybe this would stretch your budget, a GLB. Honest unpretentious mini G wage n with all the practically and features of late model Mercedes, without trying too hard to be an SUV clone.

E class estate all the way. You can get a lot of car for that money (20k), a slightly older even less.
For trips , commuting, space, for kids, luggage, you cant go wrong.

+1 for the E Class, BTW add roughly 50% to your budget and you could (with the right deal) get a new one.

Another vote for an E class.

Referring to you other thread with this, we have a B class and an E class estate.

We love our C class, but there are only 2 of us. It would be a bit small for your needs IMHO.
I'd go petrol E class.

Is it Euro-6 compliant? (answer is yes) then it will have NOX - Ad-Blue and DPF
You seem keen on diesel, go for it, please keep the forum updated :)

How about this MB shooting brake? A few compromises have to be made of course.
Non Euro Compliant? no problem. Park up outside the awkward zone, load up the motorbike Asian style, 2 adults + 2 kids, city centre here we come.

Admittedly not exactly speedy, what would you expect with 20 bhp/tonne? Anyway
no worries, time to relax, take in the scenery no need to rush, and the toilet's always handy.
Motorway jams = money making opportunity, park up in a hopefully handy refuge layby (safer than a safety lane.....of course!) and dole out the rosy lee at Harrod type prices.

As for parking, well that's where the non crumple zone
bumper comes into play, a gentle persuasion usually finds some cage with the handbrake
off and there's your 2 spaces.

Built Pre Euro categorisation, (it's a van not a number). Ancient for sure, but Stuttgart manufactured, how many MB cars can boast that these days.
Diesel powered, naturally. Technologically so old that I'm sure it would run on coal
dust or peanut oil, handy should the day arise.

Your search could possibly be over! CIMG0885.JPG

GLA are not big
Big enough for a family of 4 as a daily run around though - as long as you aren’t planning on using it for holidays with lots of cases etc…

We loved our C class too and like you say perfect for just 2 people, not enough leg room in the back of a C Class even for someone who is only 5ft tall like me so not a family car
