I have MB CLK 320 99/V problem is that secondary fan cuts in to cool the engine/quite loud, then the engine cuts out, also inside gauge reads 85-90 yet when mechanich uses his gauge directly on the engine it reads 42-45 degrees could it be the temperature sensor

Engine fans come on at 80º C and electric fans come on at 100º C

Is the car cutting out and stopping when it is warm

The inside guage should show the water temp inside the head which should be higher than an external temp guage. Sounds like your problem could either be heat or electrical related. The extra current draw of the fans may reduce the battery voltage due to bad contacts or a faulty alternator.

I think that you could say that the CPS needs to be changed, it is well known to fail when the engine warms up, £47 from a Bosch Service Center or £85 from mb
