Well today
my independent garage read the fault code on my 2003 W211 E200k it came up with P200B cam sensor, how much does this cost ? is it easy to fix ? and could this be oil in the wiring loom. Comments please any help appreciated.

I would be worried that the code actually refers to a cam timing issue - common on these engines...

Hi Alex, explain please,

The light came on a few weeks ago, but then went of, a week ago, again came on, when i took it my mates garage this morning again it was not lit, he used a bosch reader to recover the fault codes, it drives perfectly normal, no surges, nothing.

I think Alex is worried that your timing chain may have stretched, and possible slipped a tooth. It appears that Malcolm (aka Television) thinks that that's not likely at your mileage with your engine.

Although I'm sure both will be along shortly to explain better than I could :)

Thanks Colin & Alex

Now i see what you were getting at, no the engine is as smooth as a baby's bum. It never fails to start first time, no rattles from the chain no miss firing, and its done a genuine 35,000 miles.

My Indy did not feel concerned and he is one of the old school, knows what he is doing, been on loads of Bosch courses, he thinks its the cam speed sensor. Mercedes stripped half the engine to renew a gasket i was losing water they renewed 3 seal rings, chain tightener, expansion plug, sender unit, protective cap timing gear cover, that was £677.57 and all in the bill was just £3,000 pounds, and that was less than 4,000 miles ago.

So Alex you can see how concerned i was, even now i am in a quandary as what to do,my Indy said leave it, but a warning light does not come on for nothing

If it is just the sensor, they are cheap to buy and easy to fit - worth it for the peace of mind.
