I've got a small problem on my W123.
The cigar lighter doesn't work. I use this socket for my tyre inflator so would like to fix it.

I've removed the ashtray and tested the 2 terminals with a multimeter - no power (and yes the key was turned).
I've checked the fuse (#4 fuse) and it's fine.
Checked resistance across the 2 terminals that are holding the fuse in place and its 1 ohm so its definately not a bad connection there.
So I've looked at the list and No. 4 fuse also runs the glove-box light. Guess what? It's not working. Tested with the multimeter - no power at the connections either.
What should I check next? Any more ideas?
Thank you

Surely the cigar lighter comes from the ignition switch, key 1 and 2

Do make sure that all of the wires are in the ignition switch,,they seem to come out very easily, I think that the radio is on the same circuit

Does anyone else have any ideas of what things I need to check? Electrical fault finding is not my strong point

The big problem is that info on the 123 is scarce and it was never put onto WIS normally on Ebay cheap is a Haines book, and that would tell you what you need to know . I also have access to 2 web site but both are a 404 for this last couple of days

go back to the fuse and check for 12v at BOTH ends. these torpedo fuses are known for causing many problems and can easily be passed over.

Why might this be?

Ok the wire I need to check is pink and yellow, but how do I get to it to check it?
Does the ignition barrel have to come out? How do I do that ?

You remove the under dash panel and lie up side down on the floor or look up .

I use a PIN and push it through the plastic and measure from that

OK, I've removed the under-dash panel.

I'm laying on the floor looking up and this is what I can see.

So which wire do I need to push back on to which connection?

That is too hard,,, and the wires are too compact, and I not want to risk any coming off.
I would now suggest that you lift the fuse box,to see if the wires behind are all attached , the wire that feeds fuse 4 comes from the switch, the other end drive the heated seat, radio, glove box and lighter.
