Faulty Fuel Guage - Only reads half way

The fuel Guage on my 230CE stops working at half full and will not register any less than half way.

I assume this is the fault of the sensor in the fuel tank itself. Has anyone had similar problems and knows what need changing and how much/how difficult it is to sort?
