Hey all,

Quick Question, If an injector is faulty will it create a "tick" sound

Reason I ask is, Ive been looking for the source of a "knock" and came across this "tick" HAHA, I checked the other injectors and they seem to be quiet. Although my car rides fine

Thanks

Hi Phoenix

This is soooooooo spooky!!

I have just posed the same question on my longterrm "tickety/tappety" sound on my E240!!!!

Have always been told its an exhaust manifold, cam chain or cam follwer ............but today I am certain I have sourced the noise from the injector rail. I posed the same question on my thread "Cam Follower Replace"

Waiting for some replies but can you tell me if you found an injector that was causing the ticking? If so you may well have helped me solve a mystery that I have had to endure for about 5 years!!!

I am going to check tomorrow - mines a V6 petrol M112 engine. There looks to be an electrical connector for each injector so I presume I can go through them in turn unplugging one until I hopefully find the offending injector?

That should be a way of answering your fault

Well its inconclusive. I disconnected each injector plug in turn to see if the ticking sound went away but no joy - still there regardless of which injector plug was removed. Further "listening" with the long screwdriver reveals the same ticking from each injector. I presume that this is normal because they are essentially rapidly switched solenoids???

I can't believe that all of the injectors would be bad....

So at a loss again as to the source of the ticking - it is definitely linked to the accelerator process as it is way more pronounced under acceleration.

Can anyone comment on the "standard" noise for the injector and inlet manifold?

Could it be in any way linked to resonance from any internal weld coming loose in the exhaust manifold as suggested to me by two "indies"???

My motor has just started making a regular "hiss" in time with the engine. Took the top covers off and I can feel a pulse of hot air in time with the hiss in the region of injector 4. There is an awful smell of "burning"; an acrid smell that comes into the cabin that is most noticable with the heater on and stationary or travelling at slow speed. Spoke to the indie who I use and he says it could be the sealing washer under the injector. It's going in tomorrow for them to look at it anyhow. I'll let you know what it turns out to be.

Andrew.
