I recieved my ATF, and the gearbox filter and gasket today. My question is who makes these items for MB, does anyone know ? I am told that Febi/Bilstein are OE manufacturers for MB. All the stuff is made in Germany according to the bottles (8x1 litre) Just checking before i drain the gearbox (will have to wait till i get dipstick first though) Any thoughts appreciated......Derek

They make loads of components for MB.

I would use the MB atf fluid and the Febi filter.

ATF part number is A001989210310 and this is for the 722.6 auto box.

you'll find that Fuchs probably

make all the fluids in your MB, as their ad blurbs proudly state most german cars are filled with their fluids at the factory. The self-levelling/power pump fluid on our 210 certainly is, as we bought it from the dealers and it came in the Fuchs bottle. I've been using their engine oil from GSF for over a year now and it's fine and cheaper than the equivalent MB spec oil ( Carplan Turbo R) from the motor factors.

The part no on the bottles matches the MB part no,and the spec is 236.12 the very latest MB one, so im happy with that. At £49.99 it seems to be a bargain. Good old evilbay sometimes it comes up trumps.:D

I wish that I had your happy enthusiasm Derek, you really are getting stuck in. The dash on my V70R has so many warning lamps lit up, I can hardly see to drive the thing, its had the MAF disconnected for the last 12 months:(

The way i see it Malcolm is if i look after the car to the best of my ability it will look after me (hopefully). I hate paying anyone to do work that i could do myself. Im currently looking for a dipstick (and its got to be correct) and once that has arrived i will be doing the ATF change on my car myself. I have been sorting cars for as long as i can remember and i see no reason to stop now, if i can do it i will..........and save a few bucks as well.:D. Remember we Scots are tight as a ducks........:D

I managed to get hold of 20 litres of Shell Helix Ultra 5W-40 for the small sum of £80, enough there to do three changes......saves a bob or three :D

Sad, no. Tooled-up is what i would have said

I paid £79.99 for 20 litres of Fuchs 5w-40 fully synth in March last year. I have also just paid £79.96 for 20 litres of mobil1 diesel from Costco. Cheaper than the dealers at a fiver a litre.
I think I ended up paying about £35 for 4 litres of Turbo R last year. never again.

I'm a bit like you, my dad taught me that no matter how much you earn, you're not that rich you can pay someone to change your oil.

I leave the tranny well alone though, as I can't get the level clearance underneath to deal with it. I do have to pay my mechie to do that for me.
