Guys,

Did anyone see 5th gear tonight and do you know when it is going to be repeated?

They compared an S280 X Reg with the equivalent W221 and asked a celeb to tell the difference, he could hardly tell, kudos to the W220.

The reason I want to see it is because i missed the beginning and the W220 they used is one I tried to buy but 5th gear got there before me!!! If anyone wants a chance of winning it they are running a competition, it is a marvelous example of an 6k S class if anyone wants a go at it!

Please let me know if u know when it's repeated!

Cheers

However many it has done now, this was literally two weeks ago! About 60k I think, it was a part ex from Lexus in Knutsford and sold to a prestige car specialist, was p**sed off when I knew Tiff had got his hands on it!! Although the one I got in the end has many more toys!!

I don't agree. I find the 221 noisier and stiffer than the 220. And the 220 looks better too I think.

At the end of the day for the price of a W220 at 6-10k in today's market with all the toys and technology can you argue it's not a car to have??? The W221 is definately a nice car to sit in the back of, there is nothing like getting off a 12hour flight and putting that massage facility on the way to a hotel in the backseat, but if you are in the driving seat those toys are pointless!

You make me feel poor and bankrupt:lol:

If you want to be poor and bankrupt get a Bentley. The headgasket went on the other Bentley which cost me 5 grand to put right. The Spur is under warranty thankfully.

I will need to get some more Spurs and 221s for the fleet though as business is booming. Just got to find more drivers now:(

Great to hear in these doom and gloom times - good luck to you and long may it last.

The fact that the old 220 was impressive doesn't surprise me. It just confirms what I have been replying when people have said MBs are overpriced. The true value of an MB doesn't really show until the car is a few years old.

Thank you. I think from my experience it just shows that the very rich always get richer. Mind you, I do offer the Spur at Merc prices so it is good value. As for the S Class comparison the other night - it was a bit lop sided really. An S Class is all about toys and gadgets, and without them it is quite a pointless car. Many smaller, cheaper models are just as good. When I ordered my new 221 I spent over 20k on gadgets to make it what it should be. This point was proved in a magazine test between the new 7 series and the S. The base price of the S was about 58k, but the price as tested was over 80k! I paid less than that for the Spur which has all that stuff as standard.
