I've just changed from a Porsche 911 Carrera 4 to a Mercedes Benz E220D Coupe (C207), having had some pretty horrible experiences with multiple Porsche vehicles I decided to switch across to a Mercedes Benz.

I've driven a lot of W124, C124, W140, C126, W126, W201, W202 vehicles as my boss (& good friend) owns a very large collection of vintage Mercedes Benz, I even advised my own mother to buy a Mercedes Benz when she was looking for her last car and she's thoroughly impressed with her W205 C220D, I've slowly become quite fond of this car brand, I've had more giggles and stupid adventures in Mercedes Benz cars than any other vehicle, despite having never owned one myself.

Well now I do, I hope it will be an enjoyable ownership experience.

Hi and welcome.
A 911 to a diesel E class is a big change!

Hi and welcome to the forum. That’s a lovely colour but the car is quite a change from a 911. You’re going to miss the acceleration but the fuel economy might be rather better! ;) I had a C207 for eight years but that had the 3 litre diesel in it.

Hello and welcome

My recommendation would have been to keep both...

Which iteration of 911 did you have? (996?)

Welcome buddy :D . I’d be interested to hear more of the Porsche problems as well . You won’t have any with your MB :)

Yeah I had a 996 and a 986 before that, the Boxster was actually trouble free, but the 911 worked out about £1300 a month in ownership costs over an 18 month period due to just constantly being in the garage.

The 911 was 0-60 in 5.2 seconds, as long as you wrung it out to 7250rpm and shifted perfectly..

The Mercedes E220D is 8.3 sec has an auto box and 400nm of torque from 1600rpm, where as the 911 was 350nm at 4600rpm, I'm not sure in real world driving it's any slower.

You had to work for the power in the 911, I got left for dead at traffic lights whilst sleeping a few times by modern turbo diesels.

Welcome, nice car I’m sure you have bought wisely Diesel engines give torque where you need it in todays driving. I’m slowly going back to petrol with my cars and will miss the low rpm/high torque experience

Oooooouuuuuccccchhhhhhhh

yeah exactly, I think the M96 engine cars are a joke after owning two.

I'd buy an Air Cooled 911 as a collectors item or a 997.2 and newer Porsche 911, but they're a lot of brass atm.
