Now then, went out last week and paid £1900 for a 94/M E200 auto estate with AC, FMBSH, recon box in last 40k miles, and a years drivetrain g'tee...nicely run in at 232k miles. A couple of niggles....handbrake warning lamp doesn't illuminate, no etxernal temp indication (might not have it on the poverty model I guess) and drivers window doesn't fully close (around 4-5 mm and the glass stops...the mechanism bangs away, moving nothing until I take my finger off the button) After you've all laughed yourself silly at what I've bought, give me a few pointers as to where to look. Cheers

1, parking brake warning light - is the bulb OK? check there is power at the switch. In the meantime slower acceleration means the brake is on :)

2, external temperature guage was an option - the sensor is behind the front number plate - if there's no sensor there then it wasn't fitted. If the sensor is there and it's not working - don't worry about it as you'll know what the temperature is outside because your window is open :)

3, the window regulator has probably lost a tooth - this happened to a previous car of mine. Two choices really, fit a new or used mechanism or fix the old one - I welded a bit of metal on to the regulator to form a new tooth onto mine and filed it to shape - worked perfectly and cost pennies.

Not laughing too loud - honest :) Enjoy your new car

Thanks....
1) Have already experienced slower acceleration after tyre fitter got out of the car...hadn't spotted he'd applied the brake, thought the nice new Conti CP's offered significantly more rolling resistance than the worn out Uniroyals I'd just binned. Particularly annoyed with myself as I used to have a Cit XM with the same foot/handbrake.
2) Now I know where to look for the sender....thanks
3) Time to break some door panel clips I think

Cheers
