Hello again, would any of you knowledgeable gentlemen know if it is difficult to retro fit an auto dimming r.v mirror to my 1995 W202 elegance. Is the plug connection already part of the vehicles wiring?, or would I have to start from scratch?.

Thanks in advance.

This is a hard one, as this mirror is linked to the drivers mirror. There are no retro fits for this, maybe the best way of telling is to check to see if the plug and socket are the same for both

Hi,
Sorry to contradict you Malcolm.
Have you got red & green L.E.D.'s in the rear view mirror? If so I think it will plug directly into your cars loom. (this i have done to my pre-facelift 1997 C230K).
If you have,nt got the L.E.D.'s there was a retro fit but i believe it involves fitting of an additional wiring loom which was supplied with auto-dimming rear view mirror when new.
The light sensor was also in a different place on the rear view mirror, instead of the top right, in was situated in the centre top.
Mercman I believe recently had one like this, it was on e-bay.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/MERCEDES-w202...39:1|66:2|65:12|240:1318&_trksid=p3911.c0.m14

Though the auction has ended you could mail them as it does,nt look like it sold, if not you can you use the info and it shows the loom and the rear view mirror.

Thats OK Andy there is no retro kit listed now in WIS. these things get deleted, and as mercman says it old stock.

I see that there are 6 changes to the wiring harness to the drivers mirror, it makes it very hard when searching

Thanks for the response, and yes I do Have the r.v.m with the red and green lights. Is the sensor a part of the r.v.m or would I have to source one.

Thanks in advance.
regards.

I can only answer a little from what I read,, there is a front and rear sensor for the dimming, though it would work from only one

As you have the mirror with the leds it should be just plug and play.
The mirror has both sensors, one in the glass, and the other facing the windscreen.
Your rear view mirror at the moment has its own plug, and the dimming mirror plugs directly into the same plug.
If you were to want auto dimming drivers door mirror glass you only will require to run 2 cables to the door separation point at the A pillar. depending on your exact build spec you "may have run 2 cables into the door and upto the mirror plug (did this MOD on my AMG).

As long as it has the same LEDs on the mirror,,its all a bit vague for me owing to the amount of changes that took place from 94 to 97 If I can print you off anything that maybe of use I will do so tomorrow

Hi,
Yes the mirror will duplicate all functions the original mirror did, as well as having the auto dimming function.
