Fitting phone kit with COMAND

Can anyone advise on the following?

I would like to fit a Bluetooth car kit on my e320 - I presently have a THB Bury Bluetooth unit, but it's not connected to the COMAND and does not mute or go through the car speakers - consequently its rather quiet and I have to manually mute the stereo when making/receiving calls.

I was therefore thinking of getting a Parrot or a Nokia bluetooth kit that would mute and use the car speakers. And the MB perwiring afterfit option is prohibitively expensive.

However, I would be very wary of allowing someone (Halfords etc) to 'interfere' with the Comand unit for fear that it could be bodged up. And also would be concerned that it may cause warranty problems on the unit.

Has anyone had such a kit fitted to their comand?

Or would anyone advise against it?

Thanks.

I have a Nokia car car (W211 no phone prewire) and there is a yellow cable running from the boot (from memory its on pin 12 of the connector to the AGW) which is left unterminated under the passenger door sill. If you connect this to the mute input on the car kit it will automatically mute the COMAND - no need to touch the COMAND head unit or alter any wiring.

Certainly no effect on my warrenty - and I have had an issue or two with my COMAND which has required warrenty work.

Hope this helps

Thanks Steve.

I wonder how to check if my 2005 e320cdi has a similar wire, and whether a Halfords technician would be able to access it without tearing the car up...

I had a Motorola IHF1000 bluetooth hands free fitted by AVRMobiles. Neat job, simple connector sits between the COMAND and the speaker connector, so not changes to the original wiring.

Do it yourself - I wouldn't let anyone from Halfords anywhere near my car (its bad enough having a MB Technician work on it - ha ha!)

If you remove the boot cover you can look for the yellow wire on the AGW connector or simply remove the door sill kick plate cover and you be able to find the wire. I am fairly sure this is standard on all cars fitted with COMAND
