I tried to post this in the DIY section but it was not accepted so I hope I am not breaking any rules.
The person that I bought my Mercedes car from had the three pointed star stolen so he stuck a new one and I mean, literally stuck it in the hole with some blue tack.
Could anyone please explain how it should be done?

The DIY section is a closed section with "how to" guides to help members maintain and repair their cars. Within the Technical section of the forum are 4 areas for members to post technical questions about their cars. This one should be in the Bodywork, Wheels & Trim section. I will move it across presently.

As for your bonnet badge there is a clip[ that holds it on from underneath the bonnet. I don't know where the previous owner obtained the replacement but it doesn't sound as if he had all the right bits or knowledge of how to do it correctly.

The Star goes into a holder, and the Star is held in by two clips, you squeeze the clips and the stem comes out

What is the car please

From what I remember when I replaced mine. The bottom psrt of the star post passes through the bonnet and is twisted 90 degrees to lock inplace. Probably took about 30 seconds to remove and replace the old one.

FYI: The actual star that sticks out above the bonnet is sprung so that it presses flat against the bonnet in the event of hitting a pedestrian. The spring fits into a base post that sits under the bonnet level.

They are a commonly replaced item and as such not that expensive from a dealer.

new one about £23 quid

or you can have my old tarnished one for a £5 donation to charity. It's not that bad really, but not as nice as a new one.

i bought one from germany, brilliant quality and the price was 25euros, fitting couldn't be simpler you just take it of the packing, insert all into the gaping hole, and while holding it in position you simply twist the outer ring/clip 90degrees, job done

can you remove the star from the holder as I bought a replacement one that was meant to be for my car but the holder is to large for the hole in the bonnet. If I can I just want to swap it to the old holder...

The stars are the same size but the fittings aren't all the same. The 210 has Mercedes written around the base which reflects nicely in the bottom of the star (when it's clean) the 211 star has a plain base :-(
