Hello, wonder if anyone can help. Husband in the garage pulling his hair out. Fitted Witter Tow Bar to E240 (W210) 2000 saloon with twin electrics for caravan. He is working on the electrics and asked me to search internet for any clues where the ignition live feed is to power fridge on caravan? Please Help

There will be a ign feed in the rear fuse box under the rear seat drivers side, be safe to pick a feed up from there,

Welcome to the forums!

Thanks for that would you happen to know which colour wire to tap into or even which fuse?

i wired the fridge towbar 12v on my car direct to the battery with an inline fuse. it doesnt switch off with ignition but my reason this is that it doesnt put any strain on any other wiring and if i shut the car down for 5 mins, the fridge will continue to run.

never had any problems even after stopping at service station for 1 hour.

also remember to bridge the earth wiring to avoid possible melting of the towbar socket. info here:

worth doing

I would agree with connecting direct with an in-line fuse to the battery with cable of sufficient x-section, in my case I used a wire capable of carrying 25amps.

In my opinion some advice given is not correct, the fridge 12v live should only work whilst the car is running due to the high power it demands. The modern way to do this is by using a voltage sensing relay. This would be connected directly from the battery via a fuse. I have just downloaded the PDF files which give the correct advice from the CC. If needed I will email them to you.
