Fixed Nokia 6090 Locked to Vodafone

I have a Mercedes S320 CDI 52 reg with a fixed nokia phone, which I believe is the 6090 model.

All was working fine while I had a Vodafone mobile contract but since changing to Orange the phone will show all contacts on the sim card but will not make or recieve calls. Having tried other Orange and Vodafone sim cards I can only assume it is locked to Vodafone only.

Any ideas please?

Not really my line, but I know that there are firms that will unlock your Nokia.

Unlock Phones

log on to www.trycktill.com that site will give you unlocking codes fro most phones. Or alternatively call in to one of those side street shyster shops and pay some guy £10.00 to do it for you. I bet he uses that website.

I have tried to unlock the phone and the on screen message shows - phone not restricted.

Vodafone and O2 work fine but for some reason it just will not accept Orange.

Spoke to a not very helpful dealer and they suggest a new phone unit.

I might be barking up the wrong tree, but isn't Orange on a different system frequency?
O2 & Vodafone are on GSM900 and Orange is on 1800. There is some cross over of frequencies (ie O2 and Voda also use 1800 in some places) but I'm guessing that your phone isn't dual band therefore won't support Orange.

I'm not very up to date with these things, but I'm guessing that's your problem.

It is a single band phone that runs on GSM900 so will ONLY ever work with operators who use that frequency i.e. 02, Vodafone and other companies who run on their networks like Giffgaff and Tesco Mobile. Oranmge run on GSM1800.

I have had many Nokia phones unlocked by back street phone shops, it only cost £10

It not a case of the phone being network locked or needing to be unlocked. That wont make a difference in this case.

It is a single band phone so will only ever work on the single band it was designed to run on, in this case GSM900.

Older Nokias were single band and ran on GSM900 - O2 / Vodafone OR GSM1800 - Orange / T-Mobile.

e.g. Nokia 6110: GSM900 Single Band and the same phone but for the other frequency Nokia 6130: GSM1800 Single Band

Later model phones were made as Dual Band(GSM900/1800) or even Tri Band (+GSM1900) so would run on both frequencies or mutiple frequencies.
