Tonight while driving my hazard lights started flashing and the bulb failure light came on. When I stopped and switched off the flashers continued to flash internittently. I have left the battery disconnected for an hour and then reconnected, but this has not helped. Any help out there ?

I'd check the switch and the relay. These would be the most obvious points for a short circuit and fairly cheap and easy to test/replace. The failure light will come on as it monitors resistance and with a short, the current flow will be off.

A flasher relay is £300, not cheap. It does not unplug and there does not appear to be any release for the harness. Any help out there.

Still a Farce

Today I replaced the flasher unit in the fusebox. The problem is still there!!!! The hazard lights flash quickly when the hazard switch is OFF, and normally when the switch is ON. How do you replace the hazard switch as that seems to be next on the agenda, unless someone has a better suggestion (please God)

Replaced the hazard switch last night and the problem still persists. The hazards flash quickly as soon as the car is started and after a few seconds the bulb failure on the dash comes on. Could it be a faulty bulb in one of the flashers ?

Tonight I replaced the front and near flasher bulbs and this has narrowed the fault down to indicating right. The bulb out telltale comes on and the flasher goes at double speed but the front and side repeater are not working.

How do you replace the bulb in the side repeater ? There is no detail in the handbook.

Problem solved. Dirty terminals at the front flasher harness where the side repeater is connected. Possible cause is windscreen bottle on that side so water may ahve been spilled on terminal block. Spare flasher relay now for sale, cost £300, make me an offer.

Today I had the same problem. The hazard lights are on all the time. Do i understand from your postings that it could only be a bad connection at the pulps??!! please help

My hazard lights flashed at double speed and the bulb failure lamp on the dash lit up. I replaced the flasher relay, nothing, I replaced the hazard switch, nothing, I replaced all four indicator bulbs, and while I was doing this I noticed the connector at the front offside was not fully home. I cleaned the terminals with some 600 wet and dry and fixed the problem. Basic physics states an increase in resistance with an increase in temperature, and the extra hot weather seems to have triggered the problem. Worth checking all flasher bulbs including the side repeaters which are removed by pulling the whole unit forward and out. The side repeater bulbs do not have a great electrical contact and may be a cause of problems. Good luck.

Problem solved

Took car into Premier Auto Electricians after a fruitless search for solution. They took 3 hours, but finally isolated problem to Becker Radio module left connected when CD installed several years ago. Module removed, problem solved, touch wood.
