hello

i have a small but annoying problem with my E220 2004 year
the rev counter is flickering when holding it at a steady low speed like 30MPH
you can sort of feel the car pulling and slowing just slightly then when you move your foot on the accelerator it goes away then comes back
its been into merc but they said they cant find anything
ive put new air filter, fuel filter injection cleaner air flow meter but it keeps on happening does anyone have any ideas or has anyone had the same fault

thanks guys

I have never seen this one before either, with luck it will get worse,,possibly a faulty crankshaft sensor, that would fit the fault as Blobcat posted about his

Still trying to get my head around this. Its the rev counter that is flickering,, the diff cannot cause this due to no lock up for the best part.

There is nothing in the diff that can make the car alter speed without it breaking up.

OK the engine speed is varying sometimes,,CPS could it do that

ha ha we will let you off mr sam unit ;-)
right well i got my new diff from a salvage yard for 350.00 cash, the garage said they will put it in tomorrow and the reason mine was missing teeth etc was because it had NO OIL in it, said it should hold 2 litres but it had next to none in, he said it must have been leaking, but no leak anywhere, garaged every night and nothing there he said it might have been coming out when on the move but surrounding areas were clean and dry so puzzeled, he did however say the diff oil should be changed at 100K miles mines done about 110K
so ill let everyone know what its like when its all back together tomorrow, did say it was a nightmare getting it off had to dismantle most of the suspention.
Dont know what you guys think you seem like experts on the mercedes cars, but im going to get my diff oil changed more merc dont even mention it so guess they think its ok.
