Fog Light Trend

I've noticed a lot more cars with their foglights on during the day, with the trendiest set up being sidelights on, but with foglights blazing away below the bumper.

Is this meant to be some kind of trendy "cruising" thing? Any idea how it started? I know that some police forces fine foglight use, others don't bother.

Seems to have been getting steadily more and more common over the last two years.

Cheers!

I flash and point as if the people didn't know they were on.

We live in an area with a lot of up and down roads, fog lights are designed to give a low level beam that lights up the road and and doesn't reflect of the fog and impair the drivers vision.

When I meet the fog light clowns on the brow of hill, they just blind me. Good to hear that some police forces take action against these people.

The rear fog lights are just as bad, you can't see brake lights or indicators (or hand signals).

Though Swedes drive with driving lamps on, if you are caught with fog lights on and no fog its a hefty fine plus points, we normally follow suite.

Just incase people wonder why Swedes use driving lights, there purpose is to indicate to both pedestrians and other drivers that the car is mooving. So someone waiting to cross the road knows that it OK and safe. This was brought about by the fact that it is near impossible to gauge the speed of a car coming towards you.

Hi Turnipsock,
I've been flashing at them and pointing at them too! Wife thinks I'm nuts when she's in the car...!

I'm certain some thinks it's cool....rubbish. There's not enough cop cars on the roads to enforce a few of the minor offences.

I think the police should be given special powers to stop vehicles with fog lamps on and then be allowed to put a hammer through them.... Not that these people irritate me......

I think the only way to stamp out this sort of thing (and many others come to think of it) is to make is socially unacceptable.

Bring it up in conversation and when someone admits to doing it embarass them and call them "sad" in front of their friends.

It will eventually go the way of open shirts and gold medallions.

Fog Lights Anonymous.
We could have jokes about how many of them it takes to change a fog light bulb. (only one, but they have to want to change it).

I can just imagine it now, a room full of sheepish looking people, on of the stands up and says

" Hello, my name is Mud, and I use my foglights on sunny days, front and rear."

The ones that look really uncool are the guy with only one fog light working. If they get stopped the police can have them on two counts.

There was a talky bit on the news recently concerning british drivers' ignorance of the lights on thier dashboards, with an astonishing percentage of drivers not recognising the "YOUR FOG LIGHTS ARE ON DUMMY" light.
This may explain many of them.
Although they are probably the same people who never use them when it is foggy...

I recently followed a Porsche boxter with a high stop light which read PORSCHE in the LED matrix. Apart from the sad status of the driver, (and a reflection on our vehicle separtaion) you might get one which you could program with helpful messages such as "YOUR FOG LIGHTS ARE ON DUMMY" or even more inspired creations.
I guess that might need a few more pixels, or one of those tasteful Halfords back window boxes.

I used to have a vulva 480, it had a load of lights on the front. There were some real fog lights, some long range driving lights and the normal headlights (this was probably designed with melting snow in mind).

Anyway, if somebody had their rear fog lights on, they would get the full light show. I guess their first thought was to flash their rear fog lights and they would discover they were already on. Soon as they switch them off, I would start switching off my extra lights. This worked most of the time.

Agree with what has been said about fog lights on, I too flash others when I see these, who are these people and what are they saying? It's not as if you can switch them on accidently, I too have to drive down hilly country lanes and am blinded by these muppets. If you're one of them perhaps you can let us know!
