I am experiencing problems with folding out the door mirrors on my 2004 W203 220CDI.

The combined headlight/mirror adjustment switch is shown below, though not the precise version I need.

All functions on the switch work, except the top right button that unfolds the mirrors. The mirrors themselves have been lubricated and fold easily back in when requested.

I can hear the motor operate when I press the button but no movement occurs, except occasionally when they do work. Pressing the fold out button once again results in the mirrors folding in.

Is the switch knackered and in need of replacement? If so, when I try and remove it, by accessing into the rear from the fuse box, it releases by means of a silver clip and moves the unit forward but does not come out completely. Is brute force required?.

Any further ideas/suggestions would be much appreciated.

I beleive theres 2 metal clips,1 either side, there may also be a screw going up from the handbrake release handle.

If you can hear the motor running, then the fault will be in the mirror, possibly a broken cog on one of the wheels

I have a brand new black switch if you need one! not uncommon for the switch pack to pack up!

Thanks for your assistance.

So how do I go about fixing a broken cog on the mirror itself?

I assume replacement is the only answer?

If the mirror was knocked while parked, there is a safety clutch that allows the mirror to fold without damage, the motor may have to be run until it engages again, try holding the button for a longer tine in either direction,, I can send you the cover removal instruction with an Email address.

You could activate that in your user CP and click save changes
