Foliage through the center vents

I was driving down the motorway with the center vents in the open position; and I noticed some foliage and bits of plants shooting through the vents.

There are a few bits of foliage around the intake vent under the windscreen; I do my utmost to keep them clear but sometimes I don't get chance.

Is there supposed to be a filter to stop these?

I know where it is; but how do you get the cover off and access to the filter / drains?

Not all W124s have the filter. And most have leaves & foliage flying out of the vents at some point...

Could there be some soil trapped in there and it is actually growing from seed ?

I am not making a joke of this but it is possible. Plants can take root anywhere, especially in darkeness in the right temperature.

No, there is no soil in my drains or vent intake. Just a few small seeds from parking under trees.

Does the car have air con - if so then filters.

If not, then probably not, unless retro fitted.

No, no air-con on my car.

Do you mean I could just put a filter right in if I bought one?

I have not done it but the space is there and the filter comes in two strips at a cost of around 27 pounds I believe.
