Foot brake light staying on

help please loosing the will to live
after investigating a water leak in the passenger footwell on my ML270 2000
we found a relay burnt out called out auto electrician replace the relay run new cable to the join behind the speedo. re-fitted the dash and speedo only to find the the park brake light stays on when the footbrake is released when you drive this annoying buzzer keeps bleeping to tell me that the footbrake is on. put the car in neutral and it rolls freely any advice would be greatly appreciated

check the switch is not displaced or the wires have become disconnected.

where would i find the switch when we released the the lever there was only a cable. should there be a wire? on the release handle sorry if i am asking stupid questions
