Hi,

I'm a new user to these excellent forums ! Anyway I have a question - This morning I noticed that when I activated the footbreak on my c class coupe, I didn't get the normal clicking sound. The footbreak light came on as usual to suggest that it had been activated. Should I be concerned ?

Many thanks

Maybe the pawl is sticking,or needs a little lubrication, if it is stiff or lazy it could drop in by the time its reached the correct place to lock in.

Well it sounds exactly like what i had on my 2002 Sports coupe.

The Ratchet sound click clicking, stopped..

Garage kept pushing whatever it was back on and it kept coming off again! in the end it broke completly and i had a piece of "Cog" on the floor - not a big issue in itself as the parking brake is still working fine its just the rachet part so you dont get the noise.

A new one was fitted, its not gone wrong since..

I do however have a problem with the car thinking the park brake isnt released, but i think that is a seperate problem and people here have advised me to grease up the linkage, i havent had time to do that yet but im hoping that works ;)
