Oh it’s started has it?

“It’s coming home”?

Errr....You played 1 quality team (Belgium) who beat you , 2 pub teams (1 of whom almost beat you) a cheating team who could have beaten you had they played football instead of kicking you ...

So on what possible basis do you really think “it’s coming home” ?

The Belgium game cannot be counted, neither team, especially ours, had their main players on.

Is this the sport where taking drugs is the norm, where every idiot gets his bike out after work and clogs all the roads up cos they have to cycle 2/3 abreast so they can talk to each other or is it so they can get close to the Lycra to smell it, giving no regard to road safety causing endless near misses cos they have the divine right to weedle through traffic jams so they can get to the front, cyclists are a pain on the road, end of rant you misery.

Don't know what sport you are on about, are you getting confused? :alien: Must be all those fumes breathed in whilst sat in traffic :alien:

TdF is on closed roads. Some interesting reading recently released by Team SKY https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/cycling/44694122 that puts to bed the drug abuse. Appears the same era as the failed nancy boy footballers you cherish  perhaps they should have used enhancers :cool:. Modern human powered sport is becoming interesting. ;) GB has a great recent track record on 2 wheels.

Try watching a mountain stage, Stage 12 on Thursday 19th July. Live during the day on ITV4 with highlights in the early evening. You might understand it a bit more.

As a kid in the late 60's early 70's I used to go to the footy at Anfield and Goodison Park most match days. The sharpened pennies, razor blades in potatoes thrown at/by opposing 'fans', removal of boot laces, setting on fire of piles of scarves, jumpers, bobble hats and the subsequent beating up of firefighters sent to put the blaze out sort of put me off. :p:p Was miserable going to see that moronic behaviour, but hey ho that's football for ya :shock:

Lets see how the young uns get on Sat. There could be cause to :)

On yer bike :geek::geek:

Rugby Union and MotoGP take preference over football for me.
I wish England well, but feel this is where there tournament ends for them.
Can't help but agree with GKinghorn. We have played and beaten nobody of substance yet.
Sweden are nothing special, yet I feel they will beat us.

Of course you can count it.... remember Southgate said he wanted to win all the games they play just before that one... should we also discount Tunisia whom you very very nearly lost to simply because you scraped a goal in the dying minutes?

Oh and before you have a pop at me I actually think Southgate has done a great job and that’s the first English team I can ever recall supporting - no egos no big names just good solid team work ..their time will come ..it isn’t now I don’t think though ...

Some good sense there, but the Belgian game was a battle of the B teams whichever way you look at it,admittedly we are lacking in depth though.Tunisia was the first game & we didn't win that in 1966.

I would have thought the nation would get behind any English team in a competition, Football, Cricket, Rugby, and yes even cycling each to their own I suppose, but if we do bring the World Cup home I will remind you about your negative rumblings.

Errr no... you might want everyone to get behind England but generally the other home countries will get behind each other but not England in large numbers ... usually harking on about 1966 and the “it’s coming home” mantra hacks people off outside England in the UK.

We could debate as nauseous why that is but it is what it is.

Now before you jump at me on this I live in England , have an English wife , spent most of my working life in England , support England at cricket , sometimes at Rugby (though not often) , the first time ever this World Cup at football .... oh and Harry Kane has made me about £100 on this cup

Well done if you win it but so far as a relatively unbiased observer I don’t see the quality and skill to win it ... Brazil, Uruguay , Croatia and France are ahead of you guys in this one ... 2 of those will exit ...but Sweden are no mugs and I think will be very difficult to score against ..of course Harry could make the difference..

If the young uns do progress, they will put to rest the old mantra. :alien:

Nothing negative. The failures of the past under the old mantra, a simple fact is they were useless losers.

Throughout July we can celebrate, commiserate, and enjoy the Brits in the TdF; with hopefully a 5th maillot jaune equalling the clean record. Perhaps Cav (Mark Cavendish, a manxman) will become the greatest stage winner of all time. The TdF is the worlds greatest annual sporting event after all.

The British Grand Prix at Silverstone, Wimbledon, Henley etc a great month of sport, and of course the footy in Russia.

Couldn't agree more Gary.
The "It's coming home" thing just smacks of arrogance.

I can't remember the 1966 World Cup Final at all, even though I was 11 at the time, I guess being female it probably didn't interest me. I have been watching the England games for this World Cup though and I'm looking forward to tomorrow's game, even though I don't really have much of an understanding about the game. I don't think for one minute that we will get much further though, I'm actually surprised we've got as far as we have.

It's because we have a Watford man in charge now!

Oh and before you have a pop at me

Why would you think I would have a pop at you? I really don't feel that strongly about football. You're the only one on this thread that seems to be wound up about the subject.

It does feel a little different this time. Yes, every tournament you get people saying England could win it but really we know in our hearts we've got no chance.

This year though, with this team and some of the big names out, for the first time you actually could believe it.

Tomorrow they are going to show the match at the local school fete on a giant screen, there will be sun, beer and burgers. What's not to enjoy? If we win, great, if not, that's life.

It all depends on wether Sweden deploy their flat-pack four.

Heh. We managed to keep Belgium to just 1:0. At half time against them Brazil are losing 2:0

That's Brazil out. I really think England could go all the way this time , they look really strong and relaxed.
Gareth Waistcoat is clearly a brilliant (if accidental) leader, and Harry Kane is world class,
COME ON ENGLAND !!!
