now had time to look at what I was posting - OMG - is that some ultra WILD engineering giving IRS on alive Axel !!!

bring on the unsprung weight... lead rules - so handles like a dream going around left hander's and tries to kill you on right hander's - why did no one else ever think of that great design....

so do we get different rate dampers on the heavy side or did the engineering team think 1st April should be everyday

older wiser - gold star for guessing who

500kg vs 25kg of unsprung weight - yet the light one was never meant to be a sports car - just adults in the room when they designed it

3.5 litre, or 4.5 if USA
Silver Cloud Post 4??
That picture on post 1 was a pnewmatic shock, which replaced the coil spring.

66%

says its a 280SE but 4.5l engine
its an RR - shadow 1
not sure I get the answer you gave - yes there's some flex at that joint but to provide what ? seems to split the 'live axle' in half and the only reason to do that would be to improve ride.... but the RR idea is far better

The rear suspension on the Mercedes at that era had 3 coil springs at the rear. It was a compensating spring placed next to the diff, it was replaced by a pneumatic one.

Don't think that is a Shadow 1 underneath view. All Shadows were V8's. That exhaust is nothing like my past cars ;)

insider trading - that wasn't in the rule book :)

this and some stuff last year, all came from a place I went to in the Netherlands a few years back - weird free museum / classic car sales (a really huge site)

they have lots of stock at the minute - shed loads of Mercs - https://en.classicpark.com/car-sales

I didn't post the pics on their website - but its all linked to the shadow and its got the nasty steering box on both the merc and the shadow - shadow 2's got modern with a rack and a solid auto - although they lost a gear doing it

you didn't go for the bonus point on the Merc's mileage - hard to believe real - but the oily bits do look very clean (no cheating !)
