yea .............

what you like to think its worth v what its actually worth are two very different things.

Old mercs are money pits plain and simple.

Fully loaded means get ready to spend thousands on fixing fully failed stuff.

There's loads of Mercedes out there now as they're so common as a lot of other manufacturers and not as attractive because of the outrageous and horrendous depreciation.

The "gonna be a classic" days are over it will just be another overpriced money pit advertised for silly money no one will ever buy.

IMHO

And breathe ..............

Out dated looks high tax and running costs comparatively.

£300 for a door mirror glass (drivers side), fragile ABC,
failing [insert name here] -tronic units.
Blah blah blah.....

Been a bad start to the week and all Merc related so I'm a bit negatively biased.

I will probably be going on about BMW oil pumps and Vanos systems next week.

I've been a buyer of performance cars for 30 years for my personal use track or road,
and driven the worst sheet buckets all over Europe in that time as well through work.

I own a few oil burners, mostly German, for motorway crunching.

I just cant see a Mercedes I like new or old any more, I see them all over the place like
Ford Vauxhall Peugeot Citroen Renault Audi BMW etc

I'm getting drawn to the Italian marques Massers are holding out ok these days.

I have 5 Maserati's in my customer base ones a Ghibli and a Grandturismo
and I'm leaning towards either of those for my next toy.

Ahhhh all the forum horror stories... The last 18 months have required oil/filter change, a couple of ball joints at £80, tyres (Michelin’s all round) at around £800 which was my choice to spend, could have gotten mid/budget and a £100 tensioner, yes the rear passenger keyless handle doesn’t work but that’s it (I’ve never needed to use it to gain entry) but a new one at £150ish is hardly going to break the bank.

You can get the mirror glass for £120, ABC pumps can be rebuilt for £80 (I’ve done one on my CL and helped others to do so), ABC valve blocks can be rebuilt for £20, hydraulic hoses can be specially built for 1/4 of the price of a Mercedes part, the electronics are no different to any other w220 s class/w215 CL so second hand parts are easy and cheap to obtain.

I can’t get on with the maser interior, outside is beautiful but the climate control unit and steering wheel is like something out of a 1995 Honda Civic!

Cant get interested in the current Maserati crop. Drove the levanti recently. Felt exactly like a diesel ML.... Ghibli shares lots of components with GM cars...brand dilution at its finest

My brother in law has a Maserati. Not sure which model. Sounds lovely but shocking interior build quality. Bits literally dropping off.

Provided it doesn't have that silly semi auto gearbox in with the £3k clutch replacements

Went round the plant once. I asked the question, how do you hold gap and flush tolerances. “By skill and experience!” Err, so you don’t then...

There wasn't a single panel lined up on the rear, the boot lid liked like it had been fitted by my 7 year old after too many Haribo
