My wife has driven a Smart Car for the last few years; it's been a fantastic car, used exclusively around town on a daily basis. No problems and held its value very well (even with RHD's on the used market).

I drive an 87 SL420 so with the arrival of our first child the Smart Car was the casualty. It's been sold as we want to add to a couple of seats.

We are looking for a small car, for town driving, and the odd blast 30-40 miles up the motorway. Style wise (don't deny it's not a factor) we were pleased with the Smart, so our natural choice is the A Class.

Budgetwise we are looking at £5-7K which translate to an older (S or T) Avant Garde, or a newer Classic.

I've heard some horror stories and some pledges of loyalty so would appreciate throwing this open for some more advice...

Cheers,
DWB!

I would recommend a toyota yaris too, they are very reliable and hassle free. my mum's got a yaris 1.3 auto and it is very nippy and economical.

Cheers for the info gents, I've heard good things about Yaris', but I just wouldn't drive a Toyota - badge snobbery yes, but it's part of the whole car thing (just something we don't all admit to...)

Thanks again
