there's a clue, when STAR suggests things follow his advice....
Yeah, excuse my ignorance. I'm new to this game! Thanks for your patience.

I called the main MB dealer in Cardiff and asked if they would do the update. They said yes but it would cost £99!!!!!!

they don't need to be aware of it,
they just need online dealer kit and it will show them it has an update, do all 4 door modules !!!
quite remarkable all the same,

FR & FL
2214421832 have
2214424132 need from 06.40 (AKA 2006 week 40)

RL & RR
2214422132 have
2214424232 need from 06.40

you could do the front SAM and the Central gateway (which if you have a rear camera, that module will then need that flashing too, or it will come on driving forward and turn off going backwards !!!) these first too, will give the car enhanced diagnostic capability. It will then inform them to flash the Rear SAM. Which will then break things so I'd be reticent to do that one...

The Rear SAM needs 2214422600 from 2007 that came out after the front update. But some wise guy at Mercedes has set things up to flash it with a 2009 version 2219024903 from a facelift car and it doesn't talk to the Telematics correctly afterwards. And oddly having just re coded mine Mercedes just realise they'd forgotten in that update to correctly configure the rear blind

my tale of woe

Sept 2014 telematics updated at main dealer - all works no faults
Nov 2015 DAB retrofitted and added to data card at Merc toy specialist - all works no faults
Mar 2019 Updated rear SAM (as it said we needed to) - and roof OCP could be related, end up with a bug, still on the car to this day.

Source mute to allow you to hear Nav instructions is switched off after SCN software updates.

JAN 2020 attempt to change R SAM for one on 2007 software – garage messed up & damaged some wires & confused some modules – now have more bugs
JAN 2021 reflashed original R SAM, bugs go away & miraculously 13 years after build Mercedes finally remember to SCN the rear blind to the car (with updated coding)

VCD_Parameterisation Rear Blind - Hr initialisation: not initialised (initialised)

Still have the Source mute bug. So I think Mercedes have cost me £900 and two years trying, as they still need to turn back on the mute feature with SCN !!!

Facelift cars have this under Nav menus, older car's don't

index.php
Ouch! that hurts.

a fault you can fix on an S class for £99 is not one you bother to notice

when you 2k down for this months minor glitch that sort of ripple goes unnoticed

That's near to where my daughter lives! I'll make an appointment when lockdown is over. Many thanks for the tip.

I have read this link with interest since I have a CLC with what appears to be a slow running and labouring passenger door window motor. Is this likely to be a mechanical issue. Reluctant to use until corrected since do not window to be stuck open. Thanks

The garage is operating normally during lockdown - you just need to ring first

no the fault here is the windows trip out and stay OFFLINE, it was a bug in thermal trip set too low.... and for no sensible reason it doesn't auto reset to on

try some silicone spray on the window channels

as STAR says, this is a normal problem,

a software update in 2007 fixed it. How dealerships got away without bothering is incredible. There's still about 10 a year crop up on a USA W221 forum, 3 or so from the UK with the same issue.

its 5 minutes per door plus the ago of booking it in and doing an invoice... Get all 4 doors checked / updated.

in your first post

221 442 1832 is the OLD original faulty software

221 442 4132 is the drivers door software you need
Pleased to say I got the software updated and the problem went away! I used South Wales Auto Ltd in Penarth. Ten minutes job and cost £80+VAT.

that's only windows - another update broke the sound mute for navigation overlay.... 3 years in still trying to fix it.... in doing so a module you'd never think would impact the cruise control has done weird and wonderful things (didn't fix the mute bug but check this fun out) well will only be fun if you have the distance cruise option or it won't make much sense...

comfort actually offers a more stretchy tow rope effect between you and the next vehicle (at higher speed reduces the kickdown just to gain 5mph)
and two clicks back from closest setting, brings massive gains reducing the kangaroo effect in traffic - almost completely removes the need to fiddle with set speed

there are the differences in behaviour between software... I'm on the third iteration I've tried on the same car (and strangely its the rear SAM that brings the changes to the DTR behaviour)

  • original 2005 - the best iteration - pre safe only beeps once infrequently, brakes sensibly, see's stuff a long way away and does its job, but throttle by inept fool standing on it (if your chauffer you'd sack him), set at closest, can be manic in traffic (see above, fix works on all 3 iterations)

  • latest 2010 - not right - pre safe beeps twice and louder and more often, tries to sort throttle application and gets it wrong, brakes a nasty mess. It only brakes at the last minute and wears out the brake discs and gets passengers shouting at you. In traffic the throttle is better but still too much, but everywhere else far too little and you become a burden to other road users above 45mph.

  • 2007 - not right, very similar to 2005, but with a big error, pre safe seldom beeps, when it does, it does so quietly but with 4 beeps in a row. Going back from 2010 software, the throttle is too much, starts off much like 2005 but after an initial joke pull away it jumps back off the throttle. So I think its less bad than 2005, but far less sensible than 2010 at speeds under 45mph. You can feel it brings back the 2005 behaviour where the vehicle slows more and more as you apply more steering lock (which from recollection 2 years back worked well with 2005 software). However vs 2010 you can feel it dither in town, applying a bit of throttle then decides it shouldn't have. But the glaring difference. Whilst 2005 nearly always saw stuff miles away that had slowed a lot, or stopped, and even though 2010 mostly didn't, it would if there was enough time... however 2007 never sees it ever and will not lock on even when there is loads of time and clearly in other conditions it would 100% know it was there
more detail failings of 2007.

Brakes are far better than 2010. 2007 under braking has a progressive build as required but its later and heavier than it was in 2005. 2005 was exceptional, 2007 bearable, 2010 a complete joke. Yet its almost the exact opposite scenario between software versions regarding the throttle application

A big change for 2010 must have been related to how it behaves slowing for bends. The first thing I noticed going back to 2007 software was the backing off / braking as you apply more steering lock. And I remembered it was clearly a feature in 2005 too. But with 2010 I never once thought it was over doing it round bends... (but thinking now I think it was more pushing the envelope rather than managing it "safely" like the two earlier iterations)

The 2007 update bringing the "I can't see" design flaw is super naughty. I have been observing this behaviour as I can't believe it does this... coming off a major long off ramp with no significant turn at the end, locked on and following a car, if he decides to change lane it drops off the view (as you'd expect) leaving the next car in front of him 20 yards in and often stationary, yet with 3 or more second and 85 yards to find lock it NEVER finds the new car and does nothing at all and even the pre safe does nothing. Did it again at much slower speeds on Sunday even when I'm now stationary behind the car its NOT finding it, until he pulled away and suddenly he was there immediately on the display - seriously dangerous and so unnecessary…
