Front Windscreen wiper - mind of its own

Merc C 200 est 1996

Can anyone give me a hint as to the cause and solution to my front wiper's desire to operate automatically in all weathers.

It seems like an intermittant fault and I am not sure if its the stalk switch or relay.

Hi,
had same problem on my C220D '94 2 months ago, it can only be 2 things
the relay approx £80 and 2 minutes labour or the stalk £80 plus 1.5 hours labour....................guess which mine was ? !!!

Bursledon motors (my local merc indepandant) checked relay and then changed the stalk...........all fixed and no problems since for the princely sum of £125 plus the dreaded vat.
