There is a manual release, its a pull tab:

Located behind the fuse box, near the wing inside the boot trim.

Not for my model, doesn't exist in mine. Had the boot carpet lining out and nothing there. Mine is a solenoid which shoot a small plastic bolt in and out.

Looking at this pic (w205 fuel flap release motor) it looks like it would be the red lever:

but if mine was similar, the side panel in the boot/load area would have to be removed. The red cord in the R Class would have been easier to use .... but in fairness, in the 7 years I had it, the fuel cap unlocked every time on the fob :D

(likewise my Smarts .... said with fingers crossed)

Everyone will be checking their cars now, have to say I don't even know where the fuel cap is so I won't be checking ours but I will suggest to Keith that he does, just in case!

Lyn, you remind me so much of my dear wife - I'm supposed to call the C220 "her" car rather than the shopping trolley, we've had it 7 1/2 years, she's never fueled or washed it and hasn't a clue how lots of functions (e.g. satnav) work!

My fuel cap wouldn't open the first time that I went to put diesel into it after I bought it. There is no remote release to open it. I ended up forcing it and breaking the locking pin. A ball ache to replace it, as you have to remove the rubber shrouding around the fuel filler, which has the rain water, or over fuel drain hose attached to it, which is a VERY tight fit.

lesson learnt then :)

Apart from things like where to put fuel, how to change a tyre, where the screen wash goes, where oil goes, where antifreeze goes, I think I'm okay :p

Just wondering if you pull the fuse, would that release the solenoid?

I had a Merc that had a sticky flap bolt that would occasionally get stuck in the locked position.

So instead of having to keep on pulling back the boot trim to get the the pull cord, (it had one on that car) to open it I just bent the flap with the hole that the bolt went into back so it actually never locked. After all who really needs to have it locked anyway...???

Seen here circled in yellow.

(Of course might be different on modern models).

Just disconnecting the plug to the lock solenoid would have the same effect :)

Yes, but mine was not electrical it was part of the PSE System and I didn't fancy playing with Airline Connections. Also bending back the little flap took all of a couple of seconds as it bends relatively easy. ;)

Ah! I'd forgot that Merc like to make things as complicated as they can by using pneumatics instead of electrickery like the rest of the modern world does.

The pneumatics were so much quieter at locking than the electrickery though. Electrics and electric motors are too cheap now so they’re used for everything

Quieter? How long does it take a car to operate its locks? A second maybe? :D

S’not about the time, it’s about the sound. My W210 was much quieter and nicer than the W211 (and all since) at locking and unlocking

I know it's the sound, but even if it was much louder, it still only lasts a very short time ..... how noisy is the pump?
