I am thinking of buying a 1985 190.  It's 2 litre petrol, carburettor model.  It's got 57,000 on the clock and he wants £1200.00 for it.  It's in excellent condition but the current owner tells me that he's selling it because it's too thirsty for him.  I've looked all over the internet and phoned Mercedes dealers, but can't find any accurate figures for its fuel consumption.  If anybody can help me I need a fairly swift answer.  The only mechanical fault I can find is a feeling that I am oversteering into corners.  My father who's similar to Harry Enfields assures me that its shock absorbers.  Any thoughts?  Advice?

If the answer is still in time, consumption for that car as stated in a 1984 general car catalogue is an average of 10.0 liters per 100 km (1997 cc, 90HP at 5000 rpm, with a Stromberg 175 CDT carburettor)
Hope it helps you.
