Fuel economy and costs of 1983 240D

Greetings,

Fuel costs are on the rise here in Canada, so I am contemplating purchasing a nice old '83 240D, auto transmission.

What fuel mileage should I expect?

Are there any problem areas I should be careful of?

I have owned a 1983 240D since 1986. The official MB figures quoted are 44.8 @ 56mph: 32.5 @ 75mph and city @ 29.7.
I have cruised mine about at 80 on (the places where it is legal!) and get in the high 30's generally.
I always changed the oil and filters every 6 months or 3000 miles.
Currently mine has 99k on the clock, is immaculate in and out, and is for sale as I have got a coupe.
