I see that Eurocarparts are offering

1. Highflow air filters to improve performance and

2. something called an Ecotek Power Valve, which claims to increase performance, to lower emissions and to improve fuel economy.

Are there any views on these products (if any good the inventor must be a multi-millionaire) or anything similar?

Thanks

I have no idea if the valve is worth the trouble but the high flow air filter certainly is.

I had one installed on my Toyota Camry 5 years ago and I could feel an emmediate improvement. On a 2000 km drive at a constant 130 km/h with aircon swithed on fuel efficiency was 13km/l. This was with four adults in the car with luguage for 4 days. Thus fairly heavily loaded. (No idea what that is in imperial units.) An improvement of about 10% at that speed.

oil covered (as in K&N s&B etc) filters are a no-no on modern MBs - the oil contaminates the platinum wire in the air mass meter - rendering it useless - hundereds of pounds for a new one.

ecotek valve works like this - when the engine is in over-run (like going down a hill in 2nd) it opens an auxillary air inlet valve, fooling the ecu into thinking the engine is off, shutting fuel off, and saving a bit of fuel. -

but - modern MBs (from about 1980 onwards) shut down the fuel supply at this event anyway, and the car isnt actually running so to speak.

and i bet the ecu would get very upset...

The EcoTek has been discussed before and the conclusion was that there was little or no benefit whilst making lots of noise.

Again, Hi flow filters are just that, they filter less thus allowing more flow. If you want to look after your engine, stay clear. Want a minor performance gain then cheange your filter more often :)

The high flow filter that I have actually filters better than the original one.

My Camry had this filter since 120 000 km's and is now at 300k! No signs of any problems.
