Yes true Peter, when I start mine up its says 6.7 mpg, as it is all hills to get out of my home town some 3 miles later I am up to 14 mpg, and things get better from then on.

One the 303 I pushed the reset and sway 37mpg for a few seconds, but I do not count that

The ML starts at 21.1 when you first start it :) ... goes down but then works its way back up unless Im in full speed ahead mode :)

Mine seems to start at the current running average and then drops briefly then climbs depending on driving style (as psmart)

My E320 starts at 39.9mpg and goes up or down depending if I go onto the motorway (up) or crawl to Huddersfield (down)

Can someone tell me what sort of fuel consumption I can expect from an A200 automatic petrol A class?

After watching a TV programme with Quintin Wilson, I too now find myself driving at 60 mph instead of 70, as he said above 60 and fuel consumption increases by 20%.

On further thinking I guess this must be the optimal speed for economy as fuel figures are all based on speeds of 56 mph by all manufacturers. I assume that this must be the best speed for maximum fuel efficiency, as both greater and less than 56 increase consumption due to weight and various other physic issues.

I drive from UK to Spain and back, twice every year and on the French and Spanish main roads which are rather quiet I set the Cruise Control on 70mph and 2500 revs. I am fully loaded both ways and overall mpg is always 51plus and overall mph (for the entire journey of 1700 miles that is) is 50 mph.

Wirral to Axarquia on 2.75 tanks of diesel fuel! Only Ryanair is cheaper!!

I`ve seen 700 miles before the reserve light comes on and the computer often tells me that if I keep going I can obtain 900 miles from the tank full...always had to stop though for the night!

Happy motoring.

Regards

John

It is all true. If I stick to 2,000 rpm on the W220, I can average 44.5 mpg. Decided to get there faster today and averaged 70 mph and 40 mpg, which wasn't all bad.
