The centrally controlled fuel filler cap on my 1992 230CE will not open. I know how to open it manually via the boot but was wondering where to start fixing the problem. Is the motor broken?

Any help most appreciated

its vacuum controlled - find and trace the pipe and see where it goes (prob under the back seat) - see if it opens closes when you put a vacuum on it (using a syringe?)

The pump is under the rear off side seat (assuming rhd) with loads of tubes coming from it.

Unplug the pipe going to the lock and give it a suck. If you can draw air, a diaphragm is knackered in the lock or the pipe is damaged somewhere along its length.

If not, put the pipe back on and make sure there are no air leaks at the pump end.
