I was wondering what the consensus position was in relation to the period between fuel filter changes. My reason for asking is that historically I have always changed the fuel filter every year (along with the air filter, cabin filter and oil filter) but having looked at the MB recommendations they say it should be changed every 50K miles or every 4 years whichever is sooner. I took the decision last year not to change the fuel filter but I am now getting worried about how long I should leave it before I need to change it – Does anyone go to 50K miles? Currently this one has done a little over 36K miles. Your thoughts?

I've never changed one in 40 years of motoring and never had a problem.
